Advanced Power Plant Modeling with Applications to an Advanced Boiling Water Reactor and a Heat Exchanger

چکیده
Advanced methods that use continuity wave equations in fluid flow paths and exact solutions of these and all other differential equations are applied to transient performance models of a counter flow heat exchanger and an Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR). The continuity wave equations for single and two-phase flow, with heat addition, are developed, and the exact solution for a typical lead lag circuit is presented. The models using these equations are described, and transient performance results are presented. These results are more accurate and are obtained with larger time intervals because of the exact solutions used. It is concluded that these two advanced methods have been successfully applied to the selected models.

Boiling heat transfer on a simulated nuclear fuel rod with annular fins
This work describes an improved design for a nuclear fuel rod, which was developed using an experimental circuit that simulates the nuclear rod environment in a pressurized water reactor (PWR). The heat exchanger circuit runs atmospheric to high-pressure boiling water through an annular finned tube (153 fins), which is used to enhance confined heat transfer rates and guide the nucleate boiling ...

In the framework of the Gas-Power Conversion System for the Advanced Sodium Technological Reactor for Industrial Demonstration (ASTRID) project design, works done at CEA are focused on the design of the sodium-gas heat exchanger. Compact plate heat exchangers are indicated as the most suitable technology for such applications. An innovative compact heat exchanger geometry is proposed in this pa...
متن کاملAdvanced Construction Methods for New Nuclear Power Plants - NTR2009 Supplement
Relative to coal fired and natural gas fired power plants, nuclear power plants are more expensive to build but less expensive to run. This annex describes advanced construction methods to reduce nuclear power's construction costs, mainly by shortening the time needed to build a plant. Each of the methods described below has been used in one or more of the projects listed in Table IV-1. None is...
متن کاملA numerical investigation of γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids heat transfer and pressure drop in a shell and tube heat exchanger
The effect of γ-Al2O3 nanoparticles on heat transfer rate, baffle spacing and pressure drop in the shell side of small shell and tube heat exchangers was investigated numerically under turbulent regime. γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids and pure water were used in the shell side and the tube side of heat exchangers, respectively. Since the properties of γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids were variable, they were ...

Safety of a nuclear power plant and its related systems are the first key issue to assure experts and the public of the safe operation of the plant. The AP1000 reactor is provided with passive safety systems which require no operator actions due to utilizing only natural forces such as gravity, natural circulation and compressed gas to achieve the safety function. In this paper the core damage ...
